"The brutality of 'non visiting' policy"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Older people's healthcare

(as a service user),

my husband is 82 ..he has been in tintagel ward for almost 3 weeks with a broken pelvis & is delirious a lot of the time  .due we think to dehydration, and pain and an allergy to strong pain killers ...He doesn't know where we are !! He is always with me and his daughters .We have begged to be able to see him, however briefly to reassure him ..

also he is extremely  deaf & exhausted from people shouting  at him ..( not everybody..)

I find all this brutal & unnecessary .he is NOT stupid  .just human ...this system has let people die, away from their families .& nothing to do with Covid.. please please can someone re-think this ??? Its a desperately bad system

Dear Magma,

Thank you for taking to time to share your story with us. I was very sorry to read your feedback about your husband stay in hospital, it must be a very upsetting and frustrating situation. The Trust Board is continuously reviewing the non-visiting policy here at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, but if you would like to raise your concerns formally, please contact our Patient Experience (Complaints) team using the details below to discuss this further:

Telephone: 01872 252793

Email: rcht.patientexperience@nhs.net

If your husband is still in hospital, you can use a service called 'Stay Connected' to send messages and photos to the ward. You just need to email rcht.stayconnected@nhs.net with these messages and they will be sent to the ward directly.

I will share this story with the team on Tintagel ward so they can reflect on your husbands experience and make changes where possible.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your story with us.

Best wishes,

Jess
