I imagine most women have felt particularly anxious this year about their care due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. I want to share that my care throughout my pregnancy by the community midwife and birthing at the Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy in July this year felt very safe, considerate and reassuring despite this.
My husband and I remained in a private delivery room for the duration of our stay (I was already in established labour when we arrived). We were well looked after in every way- my husband hugely appreciated us both being offered hot drinks and food during the day seeing as he was unable to leave the room.
The midwives (mainly Kirsty) responsible for my care and the care of my little boy were so caring, professional and reassuring throughout my labour and delivery. It takes a special kind of person to help women when they're at their most vulnerable. Huge thanks to the team and to Kim, the student midwife assisting who did a fantastic job at looking after me. Our baby needed a little help breathing once he'd arrived and that upsetting moment has stayed with me but I'm very grateful that we had that care and assistance immediately available. Big thanks to the team there, everyone we met was kind and cheerful and extra thanks to the community midwives who were responsible for my care during pregnancy and after birth too. We're lucky to have to the NHS!
