Dad was admitted to Ward 4A at QEUH at the end of July this year. This was not his first admission to the Unit. As before the clinical care received from the medical team, nurses and AHPs was excellent and recognising the issues with his hearing everyone took time to explain everything to him.
The added challenge on this admission was one designated visitor, which was myself. Dad has always been very sociable and loves/needs company. Through lockdown mum and dad struggled not being able to see all the grand children ( and us children!!). The conversations with staff were so important to him and everyone in the team spent time chatting with him. This had a very positive impact and played a big part in his recovery. Dad also likes his routine and everyone in the ward was so kind to him - helping him shave, extra cups of tea when he had fallen asleep and his got cold. Nothing was a bother.
The Facilities Team also played their part, keeping the ward clean to high standard – and they too were great at chatting with dad.
I also want to thank the nursing staff for the support they gave to me during this time. Visiting every day, I did feel like one of the family and I got a full update on how that day had been – which I could share with the rest of the family.
Dad was recently transferred to Victoria Unit for rehab – and the staff there are building on the great work at QEUH.
Thank you to everyone in Ward 4A from all our family: keep up the hard work – and keep chatting with your patients – it means so much
"Excellent care received by dad"
