I had cataract surgery last year and everything was fine.
But, I also needed surgery on an eyelid as a separate procedure. The surgery seemed to go OK but instead of using dissolving stitches, which I was told would be used, I had non-dissolving sutures. When they were removed I subsequently discovered at follow-up appointments that some bits had been left behind and they needed to be removed. Lockdown intervened and after several months an appointment was arranged for this procedure to occur. I then got a phone call to reschedule the appointment as I was told that the remaining bits of the sutures could be removed in the clinic and not the theatre. On attending, I was told by the surgeon that I need to book a theatre appointment to have the procedure. I had driven one and a half hours each way from my home and seen several people since the initial operation only to find out that I needed to drive another 3 hours for the procedure. To make matters worse, the earliest that this could happen was another 2 months.
It seems that there has been a breakdown in communication with various staff and that the notes were not really read and understood.
