"Sent home after general anaesthetic"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) / General surgery St Mary's Hospital (HQ) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a relative),

This is about my Grandson. He had an operation last Monday to pin a fractured Talus and calceous bone together. This was the 3rd attempt as the previous 2 admissions had been cancelled.

So after his 2 hour plus Operation they let him leave the hospital a few hours later.

He wasn’t in pain at the time because they had numbed his leg. He had also had a GA but they were happy to let him leave with no escort or even help off the premises.

They sent him home with Some painkillers and he thought his problems were over. Unfortunately as soon as the numbness kicked in he was in absolute agony. The painkillers were not near enough effective and basically he’s been in pain ever since.

I’d like to know where the duty of care is? If I have sedation I have to have someone collect me! But apparently my Grandson isn’t worth the bother.
