We have recently welcomed our baby girl into the world, we were under the care of team violet & wanted to say we had a great experience.
Our dedicated midwife Claire was brilliant both throughout and post pregnancy, being first time parents it was great to have continuity care and a friendly face at every visit. Team violet is definitely a great concept with many benefits. We will miss her visits and support now that we have been discharged to the HV.
The midwives unit at AMH is great, with Daisy & Emma being a great support. Unfortunately I had to go to theatre shortly after birth but the staff made this a little bit easier, from surgery to recovery & postnatal ward they were all fantastic. I would say however, the Midwives on the postnatal ward seemed to be overstretched - the buzzer was continuously ringing as new mum's needed their support and I felt there aren’t enough midwives to cover demand. Having said that they were brilliant and always happy to help.
The communication from triage could be improved, when we called to explain I was in severe pain with contractions they advised we should stay at home until contractions were 3 in 10 minutes (we were having 1 every 5 minutes so not far off) when I explained I was in severe pain and needed extra pain relief we were told to come in an hour later, as that was the next appointment. We arrived on time & were left in the triage ward with 3 other patients for 45 minutes until someone examined me and confirmed I was 7cm dilated. We were then transferred to the midwives unit at 1 am and our baby arrived shortly after.
While in triage being checked postnatal we also overheard someone in the office commenting on a new mum's method of feeding, saying she should just be breastfeeding this is very unprofessional & staff shouldn’t be talking about patients in this manner.
I would like to say that Jill in triage was brilliant and offered reassurance when I was in getting my stitches checked.
"Team Violet were fantastic"
