In August 2020 I gave birth to our gorgeous son. The midwives and maternity team at the borders general hospital were incredible. Taking care of my every need. Babies heartbeat was doing funny things so I was monitored throughout the labour. Resulting in a successful natural birth.
Vanessa, the midwife who's care I was under was thoughtful and attentive, always explaining what was going on in any given situation. She was encouraging, especially when things were tough, and even held my hand when I had to go into emergency theatre for repair. Leigh was the senior midwife who also took the time to listen to my preferences and supported me to have the labour as close to my birth plan as possible. I felt me and my baby were safe and cared for at all timesPostnatally Susie helped me to conquer any fears and anxieties I had regarding breast feeding and the best care of Reuben. She talked to me as a human, not just another patient/ mother. And the really honest advice she gave was valued greatly, and came from real experience. All the other ladies who cared for me by bringing tea and toast, to giving me a bed bath were lovely and friendly. I could sense them all smiling behind their masks. And nothing felt like too much to ask them.
