"Haven’t heard a thing"

About: St John's Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

I was referred to Urogynaecology in December 2019 I got a letter through to attend the nurse clinic in March but due to covid understandably i got a phone call to say my appointment was cancelled which I was expecting.

Since March I have heard absolutely nothing. I have been really struggling and thanks to a brilliant GP at my medical practice if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have coped. The secretary basically phoned left a message saying the appointment was cancelled and that was it there was no indication of how things would be going forward in terms of the appointment situation a few months on. I was hoping to have been much further forward with things but I’m still in the same position that I was in before being referred.
All my questions and problems urogynae related have had to go to the GP who at times has felt unsure about how else to help as were already using the primary care management (options with different medications etc) and there was no phone number of anyone I could call for advice and this would’ve been useful especially through this pandemic. It’s just a suggestion on going forward if we were to go into another lockdown.

Dear Dionnex

Thank you very much for sharing your experience with us via Care Opinion and I was very sorry to read of how difficult this time has been for you following the cancellation of your March appointment. I am glad that you feel supported by your GP, however I am very sorry to read of the difficulties you have experienced regarding communication and delays.

Your story has been shared with a senior member of the clinical management team who would like to look into this further for you although we would need some further information.

If you would be happy to do this then please could you contact the Patient Experience Team on:

Email: feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

Telephone: 0131 536 3370

I am sorry for the difficulties you have described and I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

With warm wishes,

Ann
