After isolating as per guidance and COVID test admitted for orthopaedic day surgery in September . The communication from referral to post discharge meant I was kept well informed at all stages. I was offered home test but as able to drive I chose to go test centre at Cameron Hospital. Glad I did as I am not sure I would have been as effective at taking the swabs as the team there as it is quite necessarily invasive and uncomfortable and not sure I would have been as brave to do myself to that level. My only comment for test centre would be to consider moving sign at entrance to hospital grounds . A car had parked in front of sign completely obscuring it. If moved to other side road would not be able to be obstructed by parked cars .
On arrival at hospital the process of admission was slick and efficient. One slight glitch all paperwork had me as bed space 26 but at bay was actually allocated to 25. No major drama as the staffs safety checks each time we were approached by the multi-disciplinary team members identified which of us was the correct patient.
At each step of the process staff communications on ward, anaesthetic room and recovery were exemplary . Time was taken to discuss what was happening and to explain each action and rationale. My safety , well-being and comfort was plainly pivotal to all staff interactions with me.
The standard of infection control practice, a particular interest of mine and even more so in current climate was demonstrated to a high standard throughout. Compliance with PPE, hand hygiene and cleaning of equipment between patient use was practiced by all staff all grades. Post op checks were methodical and checks on pain levels ensured I had a comfortable recovery.
I thank the staff for a faultless experience , for delivering patient centered care, ensuring my safety at all times and doing everything they could to minimise any anxiety during what can be a worrying time .
"A faultless experience"
