"Excellent nursing care"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Critical Care (includes HDU & ITU) Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Elderly Medicine (ward K south, 2 & 3 Larkfield Unit) Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Physiotherapy Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Rehabilitation

(as a relative),

In April this year my mother-in-law sadly passed away in Ward 3 at the Larkfield Unit, IRH. She was admitted to JN in October transferred to GN and very quickly to Ward 3 without a diagnosis. She had never been in hospital before, her condition rapidly deteriorated and it was the doctors in Ward 3 who after numerous investigations and months diagnosed her with Guillian Barre syndrome.

She was transferred to HDU for treatment and then back to Ward 3 for rehabilitation. The nurses and physiotherapists in ward 3 did an excellent job in caring for my mother-in-law, when we couldn't. Having a daughter and daughter-in-law as nurses we couldn't have asked for better care.

Unfortunately after 6 months she lost her battle and died in the care of staff at ward 3. I would like to give special thanks to Gaynor (physiotherapist) and her team. Nurses Michelle and June. My mother-in-law was a very special lady and it was a comfort that she did not suffer and was well looked after.

Dear Charlie1

Many thanks for taking the time to share these comments at what must be a difficult time for you and your family.

It is lovely to hear that your view on her experience of care and rehabilitation was so positive despite the challenges she faced.

I will share your thoughts with the team and in particular Gaynor who will be really pleased as she always strives to do her best for all the patients in ward 3 and it is nice to have this acknowledged.

Best Regards

Louise Watson
