I was admitted to west Suffolk hospital suffering from pericarditis late on Saturday night. I was processed fairly quickly and was sent to ward G4/5
All the staff that I came into contact with were professional, caring and efficient and I have no complaints with that side of things
The whole experience was let down by the awful standard of food and the system of ordering it. Because patients put in an order 2 days in advance, when they are discharged the next patient allocated that bed gets their choice of food. I was given rice crispies and jam for breakfast, chicken and roast potatoes and nothing else for a dinner and one of the lunches I had was potato soup. I didn’t get the chance to eat any vegetables but the ones I saw the other patients eating were from a tin. I know from experience that It is easy to provide fresh vegetables in a hospital. I wasn’t in the mood for food due to pain but what choice I was given certainly didn’t excite the appetite. I lost 3lbs in 2 days and that would have continued if I had stayed any longer. The quality of food was well below standards
It wouldn’t be too difficult to Be able order your meal for the day, on the morning and if you were discharged midday there would be only one meal to re allocate
Outstanding staff but hospital let down by poor catering
"Awful food"
