"Baby loss"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Maternity care

(as the patient),

After having a private scan to reveal the gender of our second baby, we were faced with the devasting news our baby's heart had stopped..

We were transfered to the Royal Victoria Hospital Newcastle to have another scan and discuss what happens next.

The staff were absolutely amazing. It was a very very hard time, we didn't know what was happening and we're loving in shock and disbelief.

Once admitted onto the maternity ward we were put into a special room for baby loss labour. It was quiet. The midwives were faultless. It was a very scary experience, being induced to know I wasn't welcoming my baby at the end of the process. The midwives helped me through this, they explained every step of the way and treat me and baby like they would anyone else. If they had supported me and my husband the way they did I don't think we could have gotten through the trauma.

My son was treat like any new baby, they made sure he had blankets, a basket and a Teddy. I got given a memory box full of pictures, candles and beautiful memorial items. In that moment this is the last thing you think of, but I'm so glad the midwives arranged it. We treasure our memory box 💙

Thank you for taking the time to leave your lovely feedback regarding the care you received on the Maternity ward at the RVI, especially during a time that must be very difficult for you.

We are pleased that you both felt supported, that everything was explained to you and that this helped you through the trauma. We will forward your feedback to the directorate concerned who will share with the staff involved in your care. We know they will appreciate your kind words and their thoughts will be with you.
