I was taken in by emergency services during a mental health crisis to Musgrove A&E as a place of safety while awaiting to be assessed by mental health professionals. I was put in a cubicle right opposite resus. This in itself was distressing enough all night. I was unable to sleep due to the noise and my distress. No medication given to help, for the 12 hours I was waiting. No food or drink until it was almost time to go. The lights in the cubicle were too bright to sleep or settle. The first nurse who came in asked if I could be removed and put in a police cell even though I had done nothing wrong. I felt she was judgemental from the moment I arrived. It all made my mental distress worse. After about 12 hours a A&E doctor explained very clearly and with a good manner what was going to happen. He made me feel at ease. I was then able to access the support i needed.
The nurses' attitude was not great, but the doctor made up for it by being understanding. I feel MPH have a long way to go regarding mental health and the workings of the brain and mind.
"Nurses no understanding, Doctors excellent"
