"Contact with family"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I understand the reason behind only one person can visit a patient (appointed person) by appointment only to during pandemic and as government rules.

But what I do not understand is why cant other family members at least phone into the ward to find out update on their relative or even speak to them on phone, even although phone is available by patient bedside on this ward.

My mum is in this ward and my dad is the appointed visitor and when myself and my sisters from England tried to phone into the ward to see how my mum was doing my dad was later told to tell rest of family they cannot phone into ward and can only get information on my mums condition and progress through the appointed visitor (my dad).

What utter Madness is this. You cannot catch or pass on Coronavirus by speaking to your relative on the phone.

This seems very unfair and causing our family profound anxiety and worry not even being able to speak to our mum on the phone.

I feel angry and confused and simply do not understand this ruling.

Please can anyone clarify for me because right now I'm dumbfounded and at a complete loss at this cruelty. It's killing me not being able to at least speak to my elderly mum.

Dear Distraught family member

I was sorry to hear you had an anxious time whilst trying to speak to your mother recently. I have spoken to our Gynaecology ward and our usual practice is to only share information with the designated visitor due to patient confidentiality. we do not give out clinical information about a patient to anyone on the phone unless it is the designated person.

The phone lines in the rooms are part of the patient line access. I would advise that if you would like to use the patient line phone access you could ask your dad to connect you next time he is visiting. It is a paid subscription.

If your mother has a mobile phone she is able to use this to in the ward area to speak to you.

If you would like to contact me on 01563825441 I would be happy to explore further options with you so that you can make direct with your mother

thanks

Attica
