"Access to out of hours GP service"

About: NHS Highland (Health)

(as a service user),

My wife Ann is severely disabled with Parkinsons disease and in the past (two years ago or more) both my wife and I myself have had occasion to request out of hours attendance on several occasions.  In my case this was mainly due to problems with my gall bladder and also a compound fracture of my wrist resulting from a fall.  On all occasions the GP emergency response was excellent which was due to the fact that our local GP who lived in Bunessan was able to attend to our problems very quickly and effectively.

The GP service here on the Ross of Mull is now covered by a private practice operating from Oban.  I believe that the practice is well motivated and has far better management than that of NHS Highland.  Nevertheless we are very disappointed that there is no dedicated doctor assigned by the Oban practice to be the local GP serving the Ross of Mull.  But what is far more serious and in my opinion dangerous is the fact that the locums who are assigned to this area are not covering the out of hours emergencies even when there is a GP living in the doctor's accommodation in Bunessan.   Are we waiting for a fatality before it will be appreciated that that we must have a dedicated GP living in Bunessan?  This GP should also be responsible for emergencies albeit with stand-in support for when they are on leave and also perhaps for one or two nights per week during normal service.  This situation should be sorted out as a matter of urgency.
