"Distress to a friend who has a terminal illness"

About: Bromley Healthcare / COPD

(as a friend),

Its about an assessment carried out by a member of the respiratory team (community)

My friend, the patient has advanced lung fibrosis and is very short of breadth.

She has had to come to terms with her now rapid deterioration and dependence on oxygen therapy. This is very hard for her and depressing and she needs to have confidence in the health professionals.

She recently had a home visit from a member of the respiratory team.

She felt more distressed after her visit than before it. They had a harsh abrupt manner without empathy care or understanding. My friend was tearful as she was relating this to me, normally she is a copes really well and is a stoical person.

This is the reason for my complaint on her behalf as I believe at this stage she needs tender loving care especially as there is no treatment for her condition and she is coming to the end of her life.

Thank you very much Sharon.

You have been very helpful already.

My friend has had a response from the respiratory team and is feeling much better.

Her words were " I feel much less uptight about the visit now"

I didn't want it to be a complaint about the district nursing team but it was labelled so by this site unfortunately.

But many thanks

Dear Autonaut

Thank you for responding and I am glad to hear that your friend is feeling much better.

I am not sure why your feedback has been linked with the District Nursing Service and I have asked for Care Opinion to look into this.

Kind regards, Sharon
