"Special dietary needs"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

(as the patient),

I would like to meet with someone to discuss the lack of provision when feeding an inpatient with special dietary needs.   I was told that my meal was gluten/wheat and diary free.   It was not and it was only due to a nurse over hearing my comments that the meal was removed from me and I was given in exchange for my dinner a jelly pot.   The previous day I was given no breakfast as no gluten free option was available, a portion of vegetables for lunch and a pear, a banana and jelly pot for dinner.   Very poor.

I am lucky to have a wonderful daughter or fortunately bought in a few gluten free products for me and I still have my faculties to challenge what is being put in front of me.   I dread to think of those people who have no family to bring them food are being fed, just simply eat what is put in front of them not knowing that the food may well be adding to their discomfort in hospital.   It is shocking in the 21st century to be unable to even have a hot drink with an alternative milk whilst being cared for in an NHS Hospital.   I hope that someone will take the time to meet with me to try and resolve the catering issues for everyone in the NHS Medway Hospital.
