I had to attend the Day Clinical Centre to receive IV antibiotics for 5 days, a couple of weeks ago. I was apprehensive with the way things are due to Covid but my mind was quickly put at ease. The unit is spacious, bright and clean and the staff were their usual attentive, helpful and professional selves. On arriving I had to get my temperature taken and wash my hands, staff made sure I had a mask on and then I was able to go to my allotted space, no hanging about. Each member of staff were wearing the appropriate PPE and were constantly changing gloves or using the hand gel when it was necessary. The doctor was very helpful and I was reassured because she had taken the time to check my medical history and knew I had other medical issues which can complicate things. The patients were well spaced out and staff kept an eye to check that social distancing was being implemented as much as possible. I could not speak highly enough of this unit and the fact that it is now in South Tyrone is even better as it is a safer environment for patients rather than having to go to the larger hospital. I know it may only be a temporary measure at the minute but I would definitely say that I was a lot happier and felt safer in South Tyrone rather than at a main hospital due to the current situation. Maybe it might be an idea to keep it there for longer if that was at all possible.
