"Hospital fertility appointment"

About: Croydon University Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I attended Croydon University hospital following a telephone consultation with the consultant on the Thursday prior. I had been waiting months for this appointment as I had been advised in January 2020 that my endometriosis had returned and wanted the opportunity to explore my treatment options. During the telephone consultation the consultant was unsure of my medical history despite sending me a letter detailing my fertility options. She waffled through my notes aloud then advised me to come into hospital for a scan to determine whether the endometrioma required surgery. I agreed to come in but stated I had some questions. She insisted we discuss things face to face when I attend my appointment on the Monday which I agreed to.

Ahead of my consultation, I was very anxious as my gynae/fertility journey has been ongoing since 2015. I had so many questions and was hopeful for some reassurance and opportunity to discuss matters during my appointment but this was not the case.

Upon arrival, I was examined using an ultrasound scan by a colleague of my consultant. As the examination took place, my consultant took over from her colleague and proceeded to hastily inform me that I have several cysts in my ovaries. This was not what I was wanting to hear nor expecting and made me very emotional. I began to cry and was told by my consultant, why are you crying? You are here in the right place. I asked what would happen next but she appeared unsure. She suggested I have bloods taken but did not explain the rationale behind this decision. I asked when I would receive an update and follow up appointment and she simply replied that she would try and call me. I asked when I could expect her call and she said she was unsure and I was told to redress.

It has been several weeks and I am yet to receive a call from the consultant. I feel completely helpless and at a complete loss. I feel I have just been left without any care or consideration in a situation that is so highly sensitive and completely dependent on the feedback of the professionals involved in my care. I have no answers and no idea where I go from here.
