My mum had an advanced UTI. This led to her being confused and also experiencing physical effects such as inability to walk. I phoned an ambulance as she was almost immobile and very weak.
Following an investigative telephone conversation, a paramedic was sent out. She checked all of my mum’s vital signs and then requested an ambulance. The paramedic Elaine was great with my mum, making her feel at ease whilst establishing the need for an admission to hospital. The ambulance team were very efficient and reassured her, despite the restrictions of COVID-19 which meant that I could not accompany her into hospital.
My mum was admitted to AMU gen transferred to ward 14. I cannot praise the ward 14 team highly enough. She was so well looked after. The UTI was addressed with intravenous antibiotics and tests were undertaken which revealed she had Campylobacter and magnesium, potassium and calcium deficiencies. Her care was exemplary. Thanks to all involved. Our NHS staff are amazing. She is now back home and enjoying life.
