I went to A&E with bleeding that would not stop. Triaged and taken to A&E quickly then waited 4 hours before I was examined by a doctor despite having a complex medical history. Then sent to sit in the busy waiting room for another 3 hours before an attempt was made to stop the bleeding sent back to the waiting room unable to wear a mask as the bleeding was in my mouth and I had been asked to apply pressure. Other patients were not wearing masks properly or pulling them down to talk so felt at risk. This attempt did not work. Not enough treatment bays for patients to sit in. No information provided about waiting time. Staff discussed patients in voices loud enough to be heard in the waiting room. Two patients left against medical advice after waiting for hours without being seen. Finally seen by a very caring competent doctor from another department who stopped the bleeding and provided advice about what to do over the next few days. The doctor I saw in A&E was very nice but clearly overworked.
I unfortunately have had quite a lot of experience of attending hospitals in an emergency in a different part of the country but this is the worst experience of having to wait with no apology for having to wait so long or any interaction from staff to check people who have been waiting for hours are ok I have ever had. I am hoping this was a particularly busy afternoon/evening and that the care provided in A&E is usually better.
