"Postnatal care"

About: General practices in Lothian

(as the patient),

I had an emergency c section in June. After leaving the hospital we received the usual number of midwife visits which were great and were then handed over to the health visitor from Howden medical practice postnatal dept. We received 2 visits over the next three weeks and we were then scheduled to receive our next visit for when the baby was a month old.

My partner got a phone call the Thursday of that week asking if the baby was feeding ok and cause he answered yes she told us that she wasn’t going to come this week, was on holiday the next 2 and would come see us in August. He has now received a call today from the health visit reception saying that due to current circumstances we would no longer be getting the visit tomorrow and they would reschedule when they could.

We have now went 5 weeks without a health visit. What if the baby is not feeding correctly or gaining weight enough or as first time parents we did not have as much support about us after having surgery as we do. We feel like we have been forgotten about and not supported as well as should have been.

Dear Forgotten about mum,

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences with us via Care Opinion. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you on the birth of your baby and it was lovely to learn that your midwife visits were good experiences. Please be reassured that your feedback about the midwife visits has been shared with a senior member of the management team.

I was however very sorry to read that your experiences with the health visiting team have left you feeling unsupported and forgotten about. The Patient Experience Team would be happy to look into this further for you although we would need some further information. If you would like us to do this then please could you contact the Patient Experience Team on:

Email: feedback@nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk

Telephone: 0131 536 3370

Once again thank you for sharing your feedback and congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Best wishes,

Ann
