"Failed Screening Appointment"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Neurosurgery (Ward 64 – 66) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Xrays and Scans

(as the patient),

Following an consultation in December 2019 it was determined by the consultant and physio (both present) that I should have a revision MRI scan carried out on my spine to see if there had been any further issues in my spine that could be causing pain and weakness in my left leg.

To date this scan has never happened (August 2020) and my condition is getting worse. 

I contacted the relevant department (PDRU Queen Elizabeth Glasgow) and was lied too initially, being told I was on a waiting list etc and would be allocated an appointment. It was only later on a second call it was confirmed that the referral had just been made in May 2020 and only because I had questioned the 5 month delay during the first call. So if I hadn’t queried it would have been lost in the system and I am now facing a longer wait through no fault of my own and ultimately through patient neglect.
I had previous life saving spinal surgery in August 2015 which has left me with reduced function in my right leg so I do depend on my left leg. I had mentioned during the consultation in December that I felt I was losing strength in my left leg now and was concerned as it was my strong leg as such. This has deteriorated further since December with the leg feeling weaker, compromised and constant pain flowing through my spine, into my left bum cheek and down the leg. 

I feel let down by the system. I feel lied to and ultimately I feel scared that if there is an issue I am 8 months down the line, getting worse and no sign of an appointment for screening.

If it turns out that my leg is damaged and it could have been prevented through earlier action, I will not hesitate to take this matter further.
