"Shining lights during dark nights"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Ward A3 Respiratory

(as a service user),

I felt very nervous and scared coming into Hospital, especially with Coronavirus. I had breathing problems and felt very afraid.

As it was night time, I felt even more vulnerable.

A wee senior nurse called Denise came and performed a blood test in my wrist, to check the oxygen levels in my blood. Even though she had a full kit on, I could see her smiling, reassuring eyes. Even though it was so busy (she had to cover all the wards at the Hospital), she took the time to listen to my concerns and gave me great reassurance. I felt in safe hands. For such a wee nurse in height, she had such a Reassuringly powerful impact on me ~ a shining light and beacon of hope in the darkness.

Dear Man of the Night

My name is Joy Smyth and I am Lead Nurse for Patient Pathway which includes the Hospital at Night Team. ‘The wee senior nurse called Denise works in my Hospital at Night Team.’

I just want to say thank you very much for taking the time to leave such positive feedback. When you said ‘such a wee nurse in height’ I knew immediately who you were speaking about. It’s so beneficial for staff to receive such positive feedback during these challenging times.

I’m sure you were very anxious and frightened coming into the hospital and I am so pleased that Denise took time to listen to your concerns and gave you great reassurance. When I shared your story with her she was overwhelmed by your kindness.

Wishing you the very best in your onward recovery,

Kind Regards,

Joy
