"Lack of appropriate care"

About: Worsley Court Community Unit

(as a service user),

Over three years ago I underwent the  ICSA Child sex abuse enquiry about a serious sexual assault. I was told that I needed appropriate care and to be assessed for PTSD for rape. I came back and went to my GP as this was the gateway to the care I needed. Months later still nothing. I complained that nothing had been done to the board   and was promptly seen by a psychiatrist who told me that as a charity that specialised in rape counselling had been involved and had offered me care if I hadn’t received any from the trust That I should stick with that. I told them that I couldn’t access this for months and still nothing was offered.

I got very ill and had new symptoms of hallucinations and blackouts so back to the go. The early intervention team saw me quickly And assessed me deciding I wasn’t psychotic but undergoing extreme distress and stress. I agreed with this. I received a care coordinator and only recently a junior psychologist obviously only by telephone due to covid. No assessment for PTSD even though this was what I’ve requested throughout. Still have blackouts still have hallucinations and no assessment no specialist treatment. I’m sick of begging for the care I need.

We are sorry to hear the care was not to the standard you were hoping for as we aim to provide high quality care for all service users. Normally a psychiatrist would be able to asses for symptoms of PTSD and would provide a specialist mental health assessment. In addition to this all of our care coordinators are trained to assess someone’s symptoms and provide evidence based interventions to attempt to support an individual with management and recovery. We do encourage people to utilise support of third sector services as they can provide the care we would recommend however we appreciate there can be a wait for this. I also would like to identify we do not have a junior psychologist currently within the team, Emma is a highly applied clinical psychologist. As the new manager in the Selby CMHT I am happy to receive feedback and look at ways we can improve the service we are providing therefore would happily discuss these concerns with yourself
