"Fracture Clinic"

About: University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust

I attended the fracture clinic on Friday 31 July 2020. My appointment letter informed 10:30 but on arrival it stated 10:50. I had my X-ray quite quickly but was still sitting in the waiting room at 12pm. When I asked how long the wait would be, I was informed that they could not give a time. The waiting room was full and people were having to sit in the main building with a buzzer. As the main building was also full and no seats, people with fractures and on crutches were having to stand up for quite some time. I feel staff expect patients to sit and wait without being given any explanation in relations to delays and don't take into account patients also have other commitments. There are many posters asking patients to ensure appointments are cancelled or if they are going to be late for an appointment and this should also work both ways. I also feel some of the more vulnerable patients were getting concerned in regards to Covid 19 as to be sitting in a very busy waiting room can empathise as to why some patients were feeling frustrated. I understand that there are times when delays happen especially in the cases of emergencies, however, common courtesy should prevail and patients should be updated in relation to delays and waiting times.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I have shared your posting with the orthopaedic team for their consideration and action to improve communication in this extremely busy department
