"Breastfeeding support"

About: Fife Community Services / Breast Feeding Support Service

(as a service user),

My son is now 27 months old and has recently self weaned from breastfeeding. I wanted to say a big thank you to the groups that supported me in my breastfeeding journey. In the first few weeks I had help from Breastfeeding support workers who helped me correct my son’s latch after his tongue tie was cut. In my son’s first year I regularly attended Bosom Buddies and the Fife Breastfeeding Cafe (Milky Way). These groups provided support and information to help with any challenges I came up against. They also helped me to feel connected to other breastfeeding mums, who in turn introduced me to other breastfeeding friendly groups. After I returned to work and could no longer attend regularly in person, the facebook groups continued to be an excellent source of support, information and a feeling of community.

I was determined to breastfeed from the start (despite tongue tie, reflux and multiple allergies) but I don’t think I would have had the confidence to continue feeding past 1 year without these groups.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your positive story especially during World Breastfeeding Week.

I will pass on to Fiona Spence (NHS Fife Nutritionist who runs the Bosom Buddies Group) and Leanne from Breastfeeding Network who runs the Milky Way Cafe – a good example of the need for a range of services to support mums at different times and in different ways throughout their breastfeeding journey, and for working with the voluntary sector.

I have also let Gina our Infant Feeding Adviser know so she can pass on to the Breastfeeding Support Workers.

27 months is an exciting time for development so enjoy the next part of the journey with your wee one.

Best wishes Judith
