I have been a Type 1 diabetic for close to 40 years. Over this time I have been acutely aware of the many complications that could/would affect me.
It was during one of the routine eye checks (retinopathy) that abnormal blood vessel growth was detected, for which laser treatment was required. I also had cataracts developing.
After 3 sessions of laser treatment, the blood vessel situation has been resolved, but the cataracts continued to develop, quite quickly, to the point of in a 12 month period, normal activities (reading, driving....) became nigh on impossible.
The first cataract was removed in January this year, The second, last week.
At each & every stage of the process; at each & every appointment, staff, whether they be receptionists, nursing or the doctors/consultants made the journey a smooth and uneventful one, With caring, attention to detail & knowledge, they put me at ease. They gave me the necessary information & assurances I needed.
They said to me "we are just doing our job".
To me, for every one of them, it is quite clearly much more than 'just' a job that they do.
I have no complaints.
What I do have is my eyesight back, and for that I am very, very grateful,
Thank you all.
