My wife had to attend the Ayr hospital, she was in a lot of pain from her left eye, she is 70 and suffers from diabetes and very concerned. I felt my wife and myself suffered from very clear age discrimination by the counter staff. They appeared very firm and rude if we approached the desk too closely.
My wife is a quiet speaker and with a face mask on needed to be close for the staff to hear her. She was rudely ordered back from the desk, and I was treated the same when they asked for my personal details. I did not want the whole hospital hearing my personal details so I moved closer and was rudely ordered back.
However, while my wife was received treatment, time after time, younger patient were allowed to stand right at the front desk and one was actually leaning on the desk and nothing was said to them.
Then my wife was treated appallingly by the ophthalmic consultant who asked questions and then spoke over my wife when she was giving a response. The consultant spoke in a hard to understand accent and my wife was diagnosed with one dry eye. The eye is certainly not dry, it is hard and swollen compared to the good eye. My wife came out of the hospital in tears after being shouted at by this consultant. Very poor behaviour by the staff members!
