"Giving birth to my little boy"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I woke up on the 24th of may with contractions, I knew this was the start of labour as this was my second baby. I had been very anxious and stressed about giving birth in a hospital environment with everything going on, I also had a very difficult first labour, so that was added stress.

From the minute I entered the midwifes unit, untill i gave birth, I felt very safe and comfortable. My midwifes Claire & Jo made me feel very safe and re-assured me throughout my labour. I can’t thank them enough for keeping my growing anxieties down.

Even after giving birth the midwifes in the ward were very attentive and helpful, I actually enjoyed being in with other mums, talking about our babies, rather than being bombarded with visitors. The ward was very clean and peaceful ( other than the usual baby noises) and I’m really happy with how safe everyone made me feel.

I was also very impressed with the home care I received when Claire came to do a  check and also when my community midwife amie, who had been very re assuring my whole pregnancy, came to check on us and sign me off. I couldn’t have asked for better people to guide me though pregnancy & birth, especially with the extra stress of COVID-19.

Dear Daniellaaaa

Firstly let me congratulate you on the birth of your son and thank you for taking the time to leave such lovely feedback.

The staff in the midwives unit work really hard to make sure your birth experience matches your expectations, I will be sure to pass on your good wishes to them.

We have had quite a lot of feedback from other mum's saying that they also enjoyed not having to entertain visitors, but everyone is relieved that partners are now able to be present in the wards again, which is nice.

The community team will also be delighted to know that you felt reassured by them and I will make sure this is passed on.

Thanks again and best wishes for the future.

Liz
