My father was recently transferred to ward 3 West for a surgical consult and insertion of a long term chest drain. All in he spent five weeks in various wards and hospitals and, just as we have previously experienced, his care by the staff in the Golden Jubilee was second to none. His surgeon Mr Thomas was very upfront and kept us both involved in his decision making process with my father’s care. For most of his stay he was under the care of Nurse April and her daily updates kept me anxiety free while visiting was suspended. Weeks later my Dad still mentions her fondly! He is also very grateful to the health care support workers that gave him one to one care when he was confused and helped keep him very settled while at the Jubilee. Having someone to talk to helped keep him from climbing the walls. Everyone from his physios to the domestic that cleaned his room daily and had a wee chat with him were essential in keeping my dad’s mental health in shape while he struggled physically. Those little moments of humanity with a quick blather or helping him to video chat with me were what made his time in hospitable bearable for both of us. He’s now doing well at home and while he insists he’s never going back into hospital he does like to tell me “that one out by Clydebank was alright though. ”.
