I suffered a nose bleed early afternoon on Friday mid July. I am 83 years old, and had never experienced such an event before. Having had a deep vein thrombosis approximately a year ago, I was on a maintenance dosage of Rivaoxaban, an anti coagulant. Rivaoxaban and bouts of Epistaxis are not good combinations! !
Having been driven to A and E by my wife, after a relatively short wait I was seen in the urgent treatment suite, followed by another short wait before being seen by a doctor - who explained quite clearly that he was going to pack my nose with a nasal tampon to stem the bleeding.
This, whilst not a pleasant experience, was done with much care and attention being paid to make it as comfortable as possible. Following this, I was transferred to Clayton Ward to the care of the ENT team.
The doctors, nurses and ancillary staff of Clayton Ward were exemplary in all they did for me, from my arrival there on the Friday evening until my discharge from their care on Sunday afternoon. Thank you to everyone at LCH for guiding me so successfully through what for me was a very frightening experience.
