"I feel this is not OK at all"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I visited RCHT in June 2020 for an overdose. I feel that the treatment I had was disgusting. I could overhear the nurses laughing that I had overdosed and I had a severe tremor and once it had stopped the nurse said “thank f*** for that” I then turned onto my side to try and get to sleep and I heard a staff member's voice saying “I do not want to see your arse thank you”. I could not say anything as I was on my own.  Another staff member made a reference to a sex doll. I think this is absolutely despicable. As someone in the health profession, I feel this is not ok at all.

Dear junesr75,

My name is Jane and I am the Matron for Emergency Care.

Please would you contact the Patient experience team so that I can have your details to investigate these claims further.

This type of behaviour and attitude will not be tolerated and I need to address it with my staff as soon as possible.

I apologise for any distress you may have experienced during your time in ED.

Kind Regards

Jane

Hello junesr75

I don't believe I have seen a complaint made by yourself regarding the matter raised above. I therefore just wanted to update you and let you know that I have addressed this attitude with the staff in the Emergency Department. It is completely unacceptable and I have made it clear to all my staff that it will not be tolerated and to ensure that all patients are treated in a respectful and caring manner.

I hope you are keeping well

Kind Regards

Jane
