"Sick Note/Fit Note - Post Operative Cancer Surgery"

About: Castle Hill Hospital / General surgery West Common Lane Teaching Practice

(as a carer),

My husband had part of his kidney removed at Castle Hill Hospital in Hull. He had a cancerous growth on his left kidney via keyhole surgery.

The consultant advised it would be 4-6 week recovery time.

He was discharged from the ward at the end of June with a sick note for 2 weeks. He was advised that his GP, West Common Lane Teaching Practice, would extend the sick note for the duration of his recovery.

His sick note expired yesterday, and the GP will not issue another one, they state it is not their responsibility. They have referred me back to Castle Hill who state their policy is for 2 weeks sick note and sent me back to the GP.

I have been back and forth for 3 days and neither will issue a sick note.

So, based on this, is my husband required to return to work? He can't drive, he can barely climb the stairs, he is injecting blood thinners for another 2 weeks and still in compression stockings.

He is not fit for work, yet I cannot get either party to issue a new sick note.

For someone with cancer, who needs a peaceful and stress free recovery, you would think they might care the impact this red tape is having on the well being of a patient. Where is the duty of care?
