"Named Midwife during lockdown"

About: Maternity care (Ward 31) / Labour suite maternity Maternity care (Ward 31) / Maternity care (Ward 31) Royal Alexandra Hospital / Community Maternity Unit Royal Alexandra Hospital / Maternity care (Ward 31)

(as a service user),

After falling pregnant at the end of last year (2019) I was placed in a pilot study for a named midwife in community. I live in Barrhead and gave birth in the RAH Paisley. My named midwife was Holly. I cannot praise her enough. Having one person to liaise with throughout my pregnancy definitely reduced my anxiety. Giving birth in a pandemic, not being able to have my husband at the appointments and losing my Gran at the beginning of April, made my pregnancy difficult mentally.

Holly never failed to reassure me and answer all questions. Not having to repeat my story to different people at every appointment helped me open up more and made the whole experience a better one at such a difficult time. I hope the named midwife scheme continues after lockdown and they expand it all over Scotland as it is such a wonderful thing.

The midwives in the RAH labour suite (Debbi, Hayley and Laura) and the ward were also amazing at what was a difficult time. The medical staff, Costas and Dr P were also brilliant. I was admitted in June.

Hello Mrs T 1410,

Congratulations on the birth of your little one and thank you for taking the time to share this lovely feedback with us.

I am so sorry for your sad loss and that your husband was not able to attend appointments with you due to the restrictions in place because of COVID-19. However, I am reassured to know that you felt supported by Holly and that she was able to make what must have been a difficult time for you a little bit less worrying.

Clyde sector, where the RAH is based has been an early adopter of the continuity of carer approach and work will be ongoing to improve continuity of carer for all women across the health board.

I will ensure that this lovely feedback is shared with the team you mentioned at RAH and with Holly in particular.

Very best wishes,

Rachel
