I had contacted the EPU after finding out I was pregnant, as I had underlying issues that could affect this. I was scared and distressed, as such I was told to come in for blood tests, two days apart with a possible later scan.
Firstly, the staff I saw acted rude and sullen. They strolled in and out of the reception area on their phones. I had to wait an hour to be acknowledged, no apology was made. When I asked reception staff when I would be seen, one simply stated that they were an emergency unit, strangely as their colleague was saying on the phone to another caller how it was very quiet at the time.
When the nurse did come to collect me, again no apology. In fact, the nurse made several quite bizarre statements unrelated to my care. One being, "how have you been referred to the fertility clinic I thought it was after 2 years" (it is not, 1 year in fact if you're under the age of 35). They were rude and dismissive during our conversation. At one point someone, who I assume is their friend and work colleague, burst into the treatment room and began talking about unrelated matters saying "sorry to interrupt". I looked slightly confused, as this is highly inappropriate in such a sensitive setting. The pair then left the room and continued talking outside.
I was told I would receive a call with my results that afternoon. No call, so I rang myself. Advised these had not been "finalised" yet. Again treated like a nuisance and told he nurse would ring me shortly. No call ever received.
Disgusting behaviour and poor service, I'm astonished to see this behaviour within such a sensitive setting.
"Rude staff, poor communication and awful care."
