"Staff feeding seagulls"

About: University Hospital Ayr

(as other),

Disappointed to see staff at Ayr Hospital emptying packets of crisps out of the window to feed the seagulls waiting outside.

It's good to feed widlife, but the seagulls learn very quickly to associate humans with food, and this leads to conflict.

Beside that, the fact that the seagull was sitting and waiting for the food shows it's been happening for a while. Plus, it's right at the doors to the entrance of Accident and Emergency, the pavement is covered in food detritis and at some point the seagulls start getting braver and might try to enter the building. They aren't even scared off the the ambulance that pulled in!

Please can you ask them to stop, it's human actions that lead to issues, especially with seagulls. Ayr Hospital is lucky to have seagulls that, for the majority of the time, don't attack the people arriving and leaving the building, this will change surprisingly quickly if they are encouraged to approach/interact with people.

Dear smith247

Thank you for your post. I fully understand your concerns and whilst Im sure staff are acting out of kindness, I agree that this can lead to problems.

Please allow me to reassure you that I will share you message with the appropriate managers so that a message can be sent to staff reminding them not to feed the pigeons.

Thanks again for taking the time to provide this feedback.

With Kindest Regards

Laura
