My experience of being pregnant and giving birth in Renfrewshire was a much more positive experience than my first pregnancy in a different County, as they are/were (before Covid 19 struck) ensuring continuous care through community midwifery. Meaning that from day 1 I was in contact with the same Midwife for every appointment and she would even be on call for when I went into labour.
Fortunately I was given Sharon as my midwife and she couldn't have been nicer.
Unfortunately Covid 19 changed some of these plans (understandably).
My labour experience was still very positive, even in a lockdown. My midwife Stephanie and her collegues were great and luckily Sharon was on shift that day too and was so lovely to see a familiar face. It made me and my partner feel so at ease.
It was even nicer to see Sharon and Stephanie at home the home visits too. It means any new parent will know their midwife so well that they feel comfortable enough to open up about any issues they may be having or any questions they may have.
When lockdown eases and life can return to some form of normality I really encourage Renfrewshire to allow the community midwife programme of continuous care to resume as it makes such a precious experience for families a more personal approach.
