"My hand injury sustained on an industrial table saw"

About: Falmouth Community Hospital Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Emergency Department Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Wearing gloves and got too close to the operating saw blade.

The glove snagged on the blade and dragged my fingers across the blade.

Went to Falmouth A&E but injury was too much for that dept.

Told to go to Royal Cornwall Hospital for necessary treatment.

Arrived at Treliske and was seen shortly afterwards by the first  doctor.

Within another couple of hours I was in the system awaiting a visit to the theatre.

By late that evening I had had my initial clean up of the wound and was sent home to return for remedial surgery the next day.

Arrived and was admitted to theatre once more where the hand surgery team performed their amazing works and saved and repaired my damaged finger.

Following surgery I was under the supervision of the hand therapy unit for the following twelve to fourteen weeks.

I would just like to say the utter care, professionalism, skill and attitude afforded me by every single member of staff during the course of my whole period of treatment were of the absolute highest quality, and had this been a privately funded hospital, I do not believe for one minute I could have received a better level of help, care, and absolute commitment than I received at this outstanding hospital.

A very heartfelt thank you to all concerned, and may you all continue your absolutely vital, amazing and dedicated works for many years to come.

Thank you sincerely

Thank you so much for your positive feedback. The Minor Injury Unit at Falmouth Community Hospital is part of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and although the staff members were unable to fully treat your injury we are pleased that you received good care. We will forward your feedback to the Matron who will cascade it to the staff members. The rest of your treatment was with Royal Cornwall Hospital so by way of an email I will forward your feedback to them and it will be passed to the relevant departments.
