"Incredible professionalism "

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

Last Sunday I had to admit defeat with my back spasms, I’d been stuck outside unable to move for four hours without having uncontrollable back spasms. We’d tried 111 twice as we didn’t want to trouble the ambulance service but by 7 o’clock decided I needed help to get into the house. Initially two paramedics came but were unable to control the pain with gas and air so morphine was administered, this still didn’t control the pain. After the third paramedic arrived it was decided that I needed to be admitted to hospital (not something I was keen to do in the current climate). It was only when they eventually managed to get me into a chair did they realise how tall I was, 6’4, and I also live on the side of of hill with many steps down to the drive... this is where my greatest appreciation to the situation goes as one of the paramedics was a young lady who lifted the chair on her own from behind whilst the two gentlemen paramedics lifted the bottom of the chair, to get me down the steps. The follow on care and treatment was wonderful but I can’t thank the three paramedics enough for helping me... I’m not a person who admits pain or accepts help easily but I definitely needed these wonderful people on Sunday.
