"Salpingectomy"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Gynaecology (Ward 32)

(as the patient),

I was referred for a scan at RAH in june 2020 as I was bleeding in early pregnancy. The sonographers discovered the pregnancy was ectopic and I was admitted that evening to have surgery to remove my right fallopian tube the following morning. This was very distressing and I felt completely overwhelmed by the news that not only was my pregnancy over but I would need to have an operation to remove the fallopian tube where the sac had implanted.

I was very emotional about the loss and terrified of having an operation. I cannot express enough how much I appreciate the compassion and care of every member of staff I seen. They are the kindest team of people I could have hoped for. Everyone was so supportive and made me feel much calmer about the whole situation.

The sonographers were so empathetic and informative. Same with the consultant and doctors who came to see me numerous times to ask if I had questions and provided lots of reassurance. Every nurse in ward 32 was supportive and helpful and made me feel cared for. I didn't have to ask for anything they were always on the ball. everyone was friendly and made my hospital stay bearable as no visitors were allowed due to covid 19. Also the anaethesist came to see me the night before my op and he managed to ease my concerns about that.

In the morning I was taken down to surgery and the nurse who escorted me was just lovely. I was a bit panicky and she just made me feel like she was there for me. When I got to surgery the two anaesthetist nurses  who looked after me were absolutely amazing. They talked to me the whole time and made me feel like I was in safe hands. They were honestly the biggest support. I can't thank them enough. When I woke up the anaethesist nurse was there as promised and reassured me straight away that everything was fine. I was so relieved that the surgeon managed to remove the tube without having to also remove my right ovary which I knew was a possibility.

After my operation I stayed for 2 more nights and the care I received from all the staff was second to none. A huge big thank you to you all for getting me through a horrible situation, the work you do is truly appreciated.
