"Brilliant service "

About: Marie Stopes International Essex Centre

I had a surgical abortion at 11 weeks via conscious sedation

Extremely nervous about the whole thing (I can’t emphasise that enough, I was freaking out!) but the nurses was absolutely amazing

I had already had the pre appointment a separate day (where literally they did a scan, checked blood pressure and iron levels-the std test was optional)

On the day of the appointment I arrived at 8.00am, did wait for about 40 minutes then was called in to see the nurse

There was 4 other ladies that were called in before me, so I started to panic thinking that I would be waiting for hours for my procedure, however the nurse told me that the other ladies were further along with their pregnancy (so they had to start to take meds to open up uterus-so had to at least start that process)

I was assured that as I was only 11 weeks that I wouldn’t need that, and actually I wouldn’t have to wait long before going into theatre

I was asked to go upstairs and take my knickers off and put my bag and shoes in a plastic container

Waited in their upstairs waiting room for literally about 10 minutes and was then called in

I was introduced to the nurses in there, was about 6 of them and were all very friendly

One of them held my hand and explained exactly what was going to happen (ie now we are just doing your blood pressure etc)

I had a cannula put in my arm which didn’t hurt at all, and I swear within less than a minute I was completely out of it

It was only a conscious sedation so I expected to be semi awake but luckily I had no recollection of what happened

The procedure only apparently lasted 10 minutes

Next thing I knew I was in a recovery reclining chair

It felt like I had a lovely sleep!

I was all awake by 9.25

Tea water and biscuits given

Got blood pressure checked while in recovery about 3 times and pulse checked

Got changed, given antibiotics (as precaution) and given aftercare leaflet

Discharged at 10.15am

Whilst this wasn’t a pleasant thing to do, would completely recommend the clinic

Very kind and caring staff

Thank you so much for your kind feedback and I will ensure this is escalated to the managers in Essex. The team work very hard to give an excellent service so they will appreciate you taking the time to put this on our website. It will be reassuring for anyone to read.
