"My partner with covid-19"

About: Royal Surrey County Hospital / General medicine Royal Surrey County Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as a service user),

My beautiful partner is currently being looked after by the amazing staff on ICU. She has covid-19 and has been in ICU for just over two weeks. I haven't been able to see her, talk to her, touch her hand and let her feel the warmth and love that would flow through my body to hers. She is seriously ill, intubated and on sedation. My heart and my mind is broken and all I have is the hope that when I receive my daily call there will be a glimmer of hope. I just cannot accept that this is the best practice during this extraordinary time. The power of love warmth through touch and hearing a loved one's voice is one of the most powerful healers. I feel that this healing process is being stolen from me.   How can this be the correct way forward with such seriously ill patients. What do I do? Leave as is? Talk to senior members of the executive? Well I don't know and I am desperate. I'm hoping that this message will get to someone who will help me at this time of utter torment.

While I am clearly deeply feeling that from a medical view point, these patients are being denied a great form of healing. I am in NO WAY critical of the amazing work the doctors and nurses are doing. I do know that she is being looked after in the best way possible by the staff in ICU.
