"Concerns about stopping spread of covid-19"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

Concerned that staff are not taking proper steps to stop spread of covid 19. Whilst accompanying  my daughter I watched numerous staff taking temperatures with the head scan thermometer without cleaning it between patients. Outside the nurses station patients were also coming and going from the easy reclining armchairs without the chairs being wiped down between patients. The water drinks machine is also positioned right next to one of the armchairs. This compromised social distancing for the patient in the chair and all those using the water machine. Also observed inconsistency between how staff were doing the covid swabs. HCA was only swabbing one nostril but the staff nurse was swabbing both nostrils.

Good afternoon,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback and highlighting the issues you observed whilst with your daughter in the Emergency Department.

The Infection Prevention Team will meet with the Emergency Department leads to review the issues and will look to ensure best practice is achieved.

Best wishes

Team NGH
