"From the minute we entered the service was outstanding"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My 8 year old daughter fell and had a nasty deep cut on her head. I rushed her to A& E at Hairmyres Hospital, East Kilbride and from the minute we entered the building the service was outstanding. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and we were immediately shown to a nearby waiting area after we had registered.

After only a few minutes, my daughter was being triaged by a lovely nurse, who put her at ease and calmed her down.   5 minutes later we were with an amazing Doctor Palombo. He was amazing with my daughter and treated her with great care and compassion.   He was very attentive and took great care to try and reduce any scarring, while treating the wound effectively.

We were given information to take away to read on head injuries so I knew what warning signs to look out for, also extra wound dressings, with clear instructions on what to do over the next few days. It was less than 60 minutes from entering the building to leaving.   I can’t thank all of the staff at Hairmyres enough!

Dear Thnakyou18,

As a parent myself I know how terrifying it can be if your child gets injured and the ensuing panic during the rush to hospital! The staff that work in the Emergency Department realise that people are often anxious and agitated on arrival so do their best to provide a warm and calm welcome.

I'm sure you were relieved to see the triage nurse and I'm glad they were able to reassure and calm everyone. I have no doubt that the clinical care provided Dr Palombo would have been excellent, let's hope there's minimal scarring, although we all like to have a "war story" to tell when we get older.

All the staff will be delighted that you've taken the time to say thank you and recognise their professionalism, care and compassion; it will be my pleasure to share your feedback with them.

Kind regards

Rick
