I was booked in to Aberdeen maternity for my first c section on the 5th of may & after 3 normal deliveries this was all new to me & being needle phobic this made me so anxious, scared & nervous but from the minute I walked into the ward at 9.30 that Tuesday morning I was made to feel safe, reassured & well looked after all the staff from midwifes to nurses to surgeons were absolutely brilliant & I met so many of them I can’t remember all names but after my wee boy was born safely I was taken to a room on the labour ward as I was being tested for covid & then my wee boy was taken to neonatal so it was all very scary. Then my partner was sent back home to Elgin so being on my own was very scary but there was one midwife that sat with me all night her name was Lorraine & she was a god send for me I can’t thank her enough she couldn’t do enough to ease how I felt & make me feel comfortable & keep me up to date with how my wee boy was doing in neonatal & about my covid results.
On the Wednesday morning I was then given my negative test result which was a relief & I was taken to Summerfield ward & my wee boy was taken to be with me. All the midwifes, students & all other staff couldn’t have been more helpful & I would like to thank them all.
We were both allowed to go home on the Thursday back to Elgin but things then took a turn for the worst when I had an awful lot of pain & discomfort on the Friday night where it resulted in me being in doctor grays. There, the staff there were absolutely amazing in A&E & did everything to assure me I was going to be ok, I was then told I was being transferred back to Aberdeen as I had an infection they even organised for me to have my baby come with me in the ambulance back to Aberdeen. The ambulance men were amazing they looked after me but also my baby boy all the way there. I was then seen in Aberdeen maternity triage where the staff were brilliant & looked after me until I was admitted to ashgrove ward where I stayed until Monday the 11th for all the staff they have everyone was so brilliant & I never once felt alone or scared but one student really stuck out for me her name was Jodie she was just lovely she sat with me & took the time to listen to what had happened & she explained everything that was happening & did all my routine checks & she never passed you without asking if you were ok so a massive credit to her I hope the rest of her tracing goes well she will go very far in her job as a midwife.
Me & my boy we’re discharged on the Monday morning & are now at home & we are both doing well but it’s all thanks to the help, care & standard of the NHS that got me through everything
So thank you all so very much & stay safe.
