"Indifferent to patients needs"

About: Peterhead Community Hospital / General Ward

(as a relative),

My mother-in-law is in this hospital. There appears to be very little care whatsoever. She is not being given the painkillers that she is supposed to have. When she pointed out to a staff member that she had not had her painkillers the staff member said that they would check. No painkillers appeared for the rest of the day.

Sitting is painful, yet after being helped to get up in the morning she is left in a chair and not helped to get back to bed to lie down.

At mealtimes there's a curt "Do you want soup?"

No real care. Staff apparently indifferent to patients needs, seemingly finding the patients an inconvenience rather than people who they are supposed to be caring for.

Dear J-99,

I’m the Senior Charge Nurse at Peterhead Community Hospital and was disappointed to read about your mother-in-laws care – this isn’t the experience we would expect our patients to have and I apologise.

I have discussed your story with the team and asked them to reflect on how this made you and your mother-in-law feel and how they might improve matters in the future.

If you would like to get in touch with more information, with your mother-in-laws permission I can look into this further. I can be contacted by email: sonia.elrick@nhs.net or by phone: 01779 482412

Thank you for taking the time to highlight this.

Sonia
