"Pregnancy and birth"

About: Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Maternity Assesment/Triage Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Maternity care (Ward 50)

(as the patient),

On Tuesday 14th April I attended the Maternity Unit at the QEUH Glasgow for an elective c-section. Throughout my pregnancy I attended antenatal appointments at both the hospital and the West Maternity Centre based at Yorkhill. Each and every member of staff from the midwives, doctors to the HCSW and reception staff were friendly and so caring. Most of my appointments at the West Maternity Centre I was seen by midwife Caitlin who also was my midwife who attended me at home after the birth. From the first time meeting Caitlin she made me feel at ease and knew I would be well looked after during my pregnancy. She was so friendly and bubbly and always had a smile and the continuity of care received was great.

On the day i attended the hospital to have my baby was during the Covid19 lockdown so me and my partner Steven were pretty anxious. Although the days prior I was regularly contacted by the hospital midwives informing me of the latest updates of what I was to do when attending the hospital. Again these midwives were very calm and reassuring on the phone. The day of my c-section we were looked after by a midwife named Cara. She was amazing and made our experience during the covid19 pandemic the best that she could. Very professional and friendly and made me and my partner feel at ease the whole time. The rest of the team looking after me in theatre were fantastic too and delivered my baby boy Leo safely into this world. I was then moved to Ward 50 and again each and every member of staff looking after me and my baby were great. There was no visiting or fathers allowed on the ward due to the situation. Although the ward was busy, it was such a calm environment for me and my baby and each and every member of staff went above and beyond for us. I am a healthcare assistant myself for the NHS and to be on the receiving end of such wonderful care from everyone on my pregnancy/birth journey and making it such a positive experience, me and my partner will be forever grateful.

Hello c-mumof2,

Huge congratulations on the birth of little Leo, what a lovely name! I hope you're all doing well.

Thank you for sharing this lovely post. It is great to hear that you found the staff to be so friendly, caring and professional. Being in hospital just now, even for a happy occasion like yours, can be worrying but I'm so pleased the staff made you and Steven feel at ease and looked after you all so well.

I will share this post with all of the staff you mentioned and with Caitlin and Cara in particular. I'm sure they'll be delighted to receive such kind words.

Very best wishes,

Rachel
