About: Ayrshire & Arran Community Services / Community Maternity Services Ayrshire Central Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I had a wonderful experience despite a traumatic birth due to a very professional, compassionate team.

I had my first baby last year. A little girl. I have Lupus and my husband has TS. We had a number of concerns regarding our baby and were on a red pathway. I had a wonderful labor and very supportive midwives Lauren and Wendy.

I had a PPH and lost nearly 3L of blood. It was very quickly managed by Dr Martin and the labor ward team and I was taken to theatre to manage the bleeding. It was a very frightening experience for myself and my husband and mum. All staff were very knowledgeable and efficient and kept my husband and mum informed of the situation. I spent a few days in HDU and after a few units of blood felt a lot better. I would love to thank Dr Martin and all of the midwives especially Wendy. You provided so much reassurance and answered all of my questions. Thank you will never be enough.

Due to my blood loss I had some difficulty in breast feeding. With the support of Kara, Janette and the infant feeding team we managed to stimulate my milk and 6 months later I continue to breast feed my daughter and donate milk to the Scottish milk bank.

Lastly, our community midwife Beth gave us a great deal of reassurance throughout my pregnancy and post natally. We were under the care of Dr Brogan and the team of midwives at Irvine Central. We were seen mostly by Linda and wee Fiona. They made us laugh endlessly, provided a lot of reassurance and prepared my husband and I for what lay ahead. Thank you.
