"Very poor service"

About: The Blandford Group Practice

Three practices have combined into one large one and my experience has been demoralising. Even prior to that, with one of them, results were not scrutinised and acted on and a referral was forgotten about. I was told last week when requesting a blood test after an 'e-consult' that they only had one phlebotomist on duty so it would be three weeks to wait and another week to see the GP with results; no apology. When I said I was feeling really poorly I was told in an off-hand manner, nothing they could do to speed it up. So I have voted with my feet and joined a different practice recommended to me and within a couple of days of registering I have seen a doctor who actually listened to me, had bloods taken and a follow up appointment next week to review the results. What a difference.

We are very sorry that you were unhappy with the service. All E Consults are viewed by a GP and the reception team would have been acting in line with the guidance of the GP, who makes his decisions based on clinical need. The restrictions with phlebotomy are not the number of staff, but that the local NHS only provide one blood collection each day at lunchtime. Therefore we can only take bloods for 50% of our working day. We are in discussions with the providers of the blood collection service and have requested a second collection at the end of the day. This will improve the efficiency of the blood testing service.
